The Damodar River of West Bengal hosts a number of avian species, like the blue-tailed bee-eater. This bird is a summer migrant to this alluvial river valley, and in the banks (mainly composed of sandy loam and fine sands) the birds make their nest. From April to June the mating and breeding behaviour of the birds are observed here. The key problem to this bird is the human encroachment to the bank habitat, mainly due to sand mining, fire in grasslands, agriculture and road building. The photograph is presented here to depict the human footprint (e.g., bricks, bottles and plastic), alongside a natural history moment (mating) in the human modified river bed.
